Hugs4Hope

It’s a new record: 501 huggers, 4,008 hugs

The Hugs4Hope event was a rousing success, breaking a Guinness world record and raising more than $7,000 for two charities.

Five hundred and one residents filled Trinity United Church to capacity  and 4,008 hugs were shared to break the record with ease for Global Strides and YouthSpeak’s Hugs4Hope hugathon.

Huggers of all ages filled the pews, with cards with their number strung around their necks for the official videotape record — and with many practising the “full hug” and “right arm up” technique that would help break the record of 2,450 hugs in an hour.

Hearts Beyond Borders 2018

Hearts Beyond Border 2018

There was a positive vibe and heart-felt energy at the fifth annual Global Strides #heartsbeyondborders gala at the beautiful and spacious Markham Museum.

Sipping wine and bidding on silent auction items, more than 200 guests listened as Global Strides Charity founder Debra Weller described her first fateful meeting in 2009 with orphans at Peaceful Children’s Home in Kenya and the home’s remarkable “mom” Agnes Njogo.

The evening was full of music and fun, with old friends meeting new friends at the wine bar or while shopping for jewelry made by one of the children.

Featured singer Sonia Aimy had people dancing to her upbeat music, and MC Bonde provoked laughs and screams of joy as he announced raffle prize winners, including a very excited 9-year-old Ethan and his mom, Lisa, who walked away with a big-screen TV much bigger than himself!

Hearts Beyond Border 2017

Our 4th annual event held at the Varley Art Gallery was a big hit featuring Art displays from local artists.   Master of Ceremony Natasha Ramsahai, City News and our auctioneer Allan Bell, Markham Stouffville Hospital along with MC Bondi from G98.7FM had the room engaged bidding on the exciting auction items.  Generosity was flowing as we talked about our upcoming trip to Africa and our hopes of filling a backpack for each child.  We received donations of watches, computers, school supplies and more.  The room was lit up with the excitement of giving and knowing the pure joy these gifts would bring.  Eddie and Quincy Bullen “The Dueling Pianists” entertained the crowd as the wine flowed and Village Grocer once again supplied a delectable feast.

Fundraising Safari Aug 2017

In 2017, Card International Safaris put together a Fundrasing Safari to Kenya for a small group of ladies.

We were not only able to experience Kenya’s wildlife while exploring several game reserves but also discover its rich culture while visiting a Maassai Village.

Part of this once in a lifetime experience was a visit to the Peaceful Home for Children where several of the party stayed for several days.

A portion of the proceeds from the Safari went directly to support the orphanage.

If your bucket list includes a Safari, Bart Card would be happy to help organize one for you.
